Let me set this straight: If you are in the market looking for ways to gain access to Fort Knox or you’re just having some fun drilling through space shuttle titanium debris (and who hasn’t?)l, this is not the tool for you.
For the rest of us: Makita has nailed it: a wide-range *compact* tool that will handle most jobs and then some. This little beauty will screw and drill through most materials typical to an average household with one distinct advantage: weight and size. It is perfectly balanced in your hand, very perfectl. It is a joy to hold and use all day, being much lighter and smaller than its 18V rivals. It will fit into many tight spaces that only a right angle drill could, and that no other 18V ever could.

Since this drill has been extensively reviewed, this write-up will compare it to another highly rated (by Amazon reviewers) tool, the Bosch 33618 18-Volt Brute Tough Drill/Driver. I own and use both.
The Panasonic seems to run longer. (Its NiMH batteries have a higher amp-hour rating.) Also, the Panasonic, when not in use, seems to maintain its charge longer than the Bosch. I keep the spare Panasonic battery in the charger so it will be ready when needed.
The Panasonic is the clear winner in this department as I can use it all day without arm fatigue. The same cannot be said for the much heavier Brute; it is especially uncomfortable to use overhead for any length of time, and I’m 6/4 260 lbs. ( V. Agresti )

This drill has a nice size, relatively light, and has lots of power. The light on the front is a great feature and the one handed chuck is great. It also uses my 18v XBR batteries as well.

A lot of power and a great price for a dewalt 18 volt. Comes with back up battary and charger, it will rarely loses a power.

I have had this drill for about six months and am very happy with it. I am a homeowner so I can’t speak as to how this drill would function during all day use. So far, I have not noticed any of the battery life problems . I picked up a set of the Dewalt hex shank bits and have not noticed any slippage. All in all a great drill. I can’t imagine ever installing curtain rods, assembling bookcases, etc. with a corded drill and/or screwdriver again! ( Sammy G. Duncan )
